Cleburne had its own Harvey House, a restaurant chain started by Fred Harvey. Join us Thursday, May 26th, as we watch Judy Garland star in the musical inspired by those restaurants and the top-tier waitresses who worked them, "Harvey Girls"! (Peep also a young Angela Lansbury!) Sponsored by Trovato Street who graciously provides the root beer and popcorn! ![]()

Dueling cranes at the Layland this week! We are so grateful the city is investing in a new HVAC system for the Smith History Center. This will help keep the climate cool and controlled in our collection space, kitchen, and research library. On the south side of the exterior of the Layland professionals are repairing and replacing the mortar. This mortar must be approved by the Texas Historical Commission as it must be restoration grade mortar that is different from mortar used in modern buildings. We are so excited for these projects that are underway and grateful for the improvements being made so we can continue to enjoy our beautiful buildings.

This donation is doubly important to us: We are thrilled to have these wonderful photos, documents and books that belonged to founding donor W.J. Layland. Plus, they come to us from the collection of Layland granddaughter Linda Hadley, a longtime board member, volunteer, and all-around MVP museum supporter. We will miss her greatly, but whenever we look at these objects we will remember her with a smile. (Fair warning: It will take a week or two to get this photo framed and on display.)
